Geotechnical Investigations, RESA Design-Build Project
Update provided on April 17, 2026.
Please be advised that between April 20 and 26, 2026, the Geotechnical Investigation – Marine Geophysics Survey will continue with work at night.
Description: This work will consist of drilling in the lake to collect soil samples, which will be analyzed to determine the conditions for construction and design purposes. Assumption is one borehole per shift.
Public observation: 2 Boats (approx. 15’) carrying crew and survey equipment will be used to conduct the survey. No Barge and Drill equipment to be used. Some night lighting will be required around the equipment. Contractors will be required to point lights away from shoreline as much as possible and aim lights downwards.
Operations are exempt from City noise bylaw, but efforts will be made to mitigate noisy activities.
March 30 to April 15, 2026
As part of the RESA Design-Build Project, the Toronto Port Authority will be pursuing additional geotechnical investigations to support design and construction. The purpose of this geotechnical investigation is to further obtain supplementary subsurface information to support ongoing design development, and will include the following:
- Drilling and sampling of boreholes
- Cone penetration testing (CPT)
- Marine geophysics survey
Please consult this PDF document for a description of activities taking place.
UPDATE (as of April 10, 2026):
- The additional Geotechnical Survey work, including borehole drilling and cone penetration testing (CPTs) (East & West RESAs) was completed on April 9. The crew demobilized April 10. As such, there will be no more work happening between April 10 and 12 as previously announced.
- The Geophysics Survey work has been rescheduled to start the week of Apr 20 and wrap up the week of May 4, 2026.
